Baltimore

Last weekend some friends and I ate our way through Baltimore. The trip was planned for the sole purpose of trying some new chocolate chip pancakes. As chocolate chip pancakes from IHOP are a pretty regular occurance in our little group, this seemed a completely sound reason for visiting a neighboring state/city.

One friend just happens to have a boyfriend with a house in Baltimore *tada* free place to stay. He was supposed to be working on the house all day long while us five girls spent some quality girl shopping time. His plans fell through though, so poor guy was stuck with us for the quality girl shopping time. I got some new shoes- very cute.

One hightlight of the day: learning how to make kataifa from a very nice lady at the greek festival. Just remember, the most important thing about making kataifa is that the dough is not too dry.

I survived the tornado!

Well not so much a tornado as a tornado warning, but no worries, I'm ok.

Happy Memorial Day

I've had a very busy Memorial Day weekend. My friend Sarah Pike was in town and we visited the capital, the White House, all sorts of monuments (FDR is my favorite still) and had delicious crepes for breakfast and lunch.

Also had a fun filled day lounging poolside, going to a minor league baseball game, movie, shopping, and some bbq. Very American day.

The highlight of the day, however, was surely weird naked guy at the ball game. He showed up at the game with his back pack, black shorts and button down shirt (unbuttoned all the way of course) and weird sandals, and took his place behind us at the top of the bleachers. Soon enough we look back and he's not wearing his shirt any more, and he's tucked his shorts up on the legs so it looks like he's wearing a weird speedo diaper. He stood there posing during most of the game.

He took a short break to sit and eat his $1 hot dog, but that was it. He did put his shirt back on to go buy his hot dog- probably because of that whole "no shirt, no shoes, no service" thing. But they couldn't have been that stuck on the rules because he was standing there nearly naked until the 7th inning. There was a security guard that was headed our way, and we thought he was going to get busted for indecent exposure, but the guard just gave away some baseballs to the kids in our section and went on his merry way. Some people are just weird.

#6

Last Saturday was super fun. It was my very first air show. We took the metro down to Andrews Air Force Base and waited in a super long line and smuggled in some sour patch kids.

It was lots of fun to see all of the planes and all of the crazy things that those pilots could do. But the definite highlight was getting our picture taken with Major Nathan Miller. He is one of the Blue Angels solo pilots, and he is beautiful.

Such Good Music

This last weekend was super jam packed with all sorts of fun activities, so at this point I'm only going to review Friday.

I left work a little early so my friend Jen and I could make it all the way down to Richmond, VA for a concert. Traffic was terrible, so it took much longer than it should have, but we took a quiz and found out what our love languages are (we're pretty much the same) and it was a good 3 1/2 hours.

We drove around Richmond for a while trying to find the nice part of town- there isn't one. So we ate at a nice restaurant in an area that looks like it will be nice in a few years.

AND THEN... we went to the concert. It was The Swell Season/The Frames/Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. The show was amazing, Glen is really funny and I totally believe that we could be great friends. Marketa wasn't feeling so great so she sat out for a few songs, but that gave them the opportunity to play some Frames songs, so I was pretty happy. They didn't play Revelate, which is my favortie, but they did play my second favorite, Fitzcarraldo, so I have no complaints.

The show made me miss all of my SLC friends though, because I don't think anyone out here knew anything about The Frames or the movie Once.

Go Speed Racer

So, I over-booked myself Friday night. That's not really all that surprising, I kind of forget about travel time between activities, as well as the fact that even though things are supposed to start at 7:30- they really start at 8:00 if you're lucky.

I went to a coworker's birthday dinner in the city, and was planning on staying for an hour, getting some dinner and then driving way out of the city to go see Speed Racer with some other friends. This would have been a good plan if, as soon as I entered the restaurant, I went strait to the kitchen and told them what I wanted and that I wanted it to go. As it was, I waited as long as I could, but eventually just had to leave my dinner behind.

It was a good thing that I left when I did, because we got to the movie just as it was starting. Thankfully some friends had gone ahead and saved seats on the back row (just in case you were wondering, the back row is the best place to sit at an IMAX theater, especially when you are watching the most colorful movie in the world. Seriously, Speed Racer is more colorful than Bollywood).

I think that with my dinner of a red vine and a handful of reces pieces, I might have passed out with all of the colors flying past me at such high speeds if I were sitting any closer. The movie was fun, but unless I'm going to start taking naps on the weekend, I need to get to bed earlier. I must be getting old.

libraries and tied up children

What do libraries have to do with tied up children? Well, if you are walking along the street towards the Library of Congress on a Friday morning, you could possibly see two women walking eight little three year olds tied to a rope. They weren't just holding onto the rope, their little hands were tied in loops on the ropes. I guess if you're going to be taking that many kids around in the city you have to make sure they're not going to run into the street or anything, but they looked like a little chain gang. I'm pretty sure their mothers don't know that's how they take field trips.
Anyway, it was a fun day with the parents. Museums are very tiring, and tomorrow is the civil war reenactment, which promises to be all sorts of fun.
