A Saturday in the Springtime
I had high hopes for my Saturday this weekend. Partly because I had to work on Sunday for a big event on campus, and partly because I always have big plans for my Saturdays.
This is what I wanted to do: go running, eat french toast at eastern market, go on a tour of the capital, see atlas shrugged, go to my friend Liz's concert, find out what kind of tree this is (well, that wasn't really on the list, but I still want to know, so if you have any insights feel free to share)
And this is what I actually did: went running, ate french toast at eastern market, bought a fantastic fuchsia hat for the races,
It was a pretty full day.

Macarons
That's mac-a-rawn, not macaroon, we had dictionary.com teach us how to say it. These are the oh so fashionable cookies that happen to not have any coconut in them. And this is Elaine, someday she'll have her own cooking show. She was practicing with us and teaching us how to make macarons.
After they've been baking
Stacked prettily together.
Just so you know, this was the first night I discovered my new camera app, and I just had a lot of fun taking lots of pictures of pretty cookies.
Blanket Fort Weekend
Inspired by rad posts like this one http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/la/look/building-indoor-forts-is-not-just-for-kids-139991?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+apartmenttherapy%2Fmain+%28Main%29 I decided that I wanted to build a blanket fort, and last weekend with General Conference was pretty much the perfect time to do so. I did some building on Friday night, and then people showed up throughout the weekend to hang out in the fort.
It's pretty cozy inside.
The only thing lacking I think is more pillows, you can always use more pillows. And just so you know, it's been almost two weeks, and the fort is still up. It will be up for the indefinite future.
Blossoms Continued
Here's a picture from the Cherry Blossoms. You might think that I picked up a polaroid camera at the thrift store along with my random furniture findings, but you'd be wrong. It's my cool new camera app on my iPhone. It's happening, as we get to know each other better, I'm beginning a very fulfilling relationship with Ivan, my iPhone.

Cherry Blossoms
Maybe the fact that I only took three pictures at the cherry blossoms means that I am no longer "new" to the DC area. Or maybe it just means that my camera has not yet recovered from the sand in Cancun.
Either way, the blossoms were lovely and white and fluffy, and the air was just a little chilly, and it was a lovely Monday evening around the Tidal Basin.

The weekend
My weekend was pretty low key. It involved laying in bed for a few hours on Saturday waiting for the temperature to make it up to 40 before I ventured outside. Sometime around 10:30 I gave up at 37 degrees and got up anyway.
I sat in the doorway for a good 20 minutes or more practicing clipping in and out of the pedals. Then a few times around the block clipping in and out. I have not fallen yet, but it's only a matter of time; I just hope it happens without audience.
Then I set out on my mission for the day: to find a new bike. I'd been riding a friend's for the last year or so, and it just didn't fit me. So thanks to an upcoming birthday and awesome parents, this is my latest toy.
