A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC

I went up to NYC this weekend for a college fair, and because of the lovely Miss Sheila and her lovely corporate apartment, I got to stay an extra night. There were a few other people that came up as well, and while I was talking to prospective college students in Queens, they were riding bikes in Central Park, watching parades, and buying tickets to a show that night.

When I found out that we were going to see "A Little Night Music," I was a little dubious as I'd never really heard of it before. But, once we got to the theater and I saw that Bernadette Peters was starring, I figured everything would be okay.

Aside from Bernadette Peters rendition of "Send In The Clowns", my favorite part came from the Grandmother.

Madame Arnfeldt: Child, I have come to give you your advice for the day.

Fredrika Arnfeldt: Yes, Grandmother?

Madame Arnfeldt: Never marry, or even dally with, a Scandinavian.

I'll have to keep that in mind.

Deposition

I was deposed today. I drove down to some law office and went to the 9th floor to suite 902, too bad suite 902 was on the 6th floor (makes total sense doesn't it?). I sat in the conference room and met with four lawyers and a court reporter for about 45 minutes talking about an incident a year and a half ago. It's a good thing that I wrote things down and could remember what happened http://admthatsit.blogspot.com/2009/04/its-true.html.

They let me know that the court date was set for April 19th and 20th of next year and asked what I was going to be doing. HA! Other than celebrating turning 31, I have absolutely no idea where I'll be.

The Group Photo

So This is the only picture I've come across from the weekend, but at least it has the entire group in it. And you can kind of see the ocean off to the left.
Also fun to note- my hair was absolutely crazy the whole weekend, it was at the point where I didn't even try to tame it. It amazes me that people buy and use all sorts of product to produce "beach hair".

A Visit

You'd think that living in Washington D.C. would mean that you have people visiting all the time to take advantage of a free place to stay in the nation's capital- not so. In the three years that I've been here, I can count my visitors on my hands, so it was great to have two of my favorite college roommates visiting last week.

I still had to work, so they entertained themselves quite nicely and then in the evenings and weekend, we took advantage of a few things that even I hadn't done here yet. There was a ghost tour- I wasn't super excited about that because I'm kind of a wimp about scary things- but it was really cool to hear about some of the people that had lived in the city while it was still new. There was the tour of Ford's Theater (ashamed to say I didn't even know there was a museum in the basement), and then just some quality time with the girls.

Labor Day

For me, Labor Day included a last minute jaunt to the outer banks of North Carolina. I decided to go on Friday, and on Saturday morning, I was on my way south. People were a little nervous about that pesky hurricane Earl, but I barely noticed him. Granted the black flags were up and the waves were ginormous when we got there on Saturday afternoon, but things died down and there was plenty of time to frolic in the ocean.
We stayed in this house http://www.carolinadesigns.com/vacation-rentals/wish-you-were-here.aspx, it wasn't too shabby. And I've continued my new tradition of only sleeping outside down there (it makes me think I'm on top of a houseboat at Lake Powell). It was so nice to actually see the Milky Way again.
There was also a little off road fun when we explored the 4x4 access only neighborhoods looking for the next vacation spot. Our driver tensed up a little when the hood of his jeep was submerged going through a "puddle" but all survived and it was not necessary to go swimming.
And once again, the beach drained me of my desire to take pictures. I am, however, excellent at posing for pictures at the beach so keep an eye out on fb, as I'm sure there's some tagging to be done soon.

The Weekend

Miss Jodi came to visit DC last weekend and we had a great time. The main event was Twilight Polo- gotta love events where tailgating involves candlesticks and flowers in vases. We actually witnessed a lady pouring Pellegrino into the vase to water the flowers.

But there was also the concert on Friday night. Poor Jodi seems to visit me when I already have tickets to some obscure concert of a band that she's never heard of, but they were pretty amazing so I'm sure she survived.

The Spice Rack

This was my kitchen a few weeks ago, just in case you can't tell there are actually two microwaves in this picture.

This is what we use this microwave for....

It actually ended up being a very convenient spot for a spice rack.

But then a coworker was refinishing her kitchen so she sent her husband over to install this nice microwave. It was kind of sad to have to find a new spot for the spices, but it was really nice to get all that counter space back.

And it's great when new roommates have fun toys like KitchenAid Mixers.
